National Signing Day Is Here
It looks as though Notre Dame has locked up a top 5 recruiting class for the 2006 year. Of course, it depends on what rankings you look at but I’m not even trying to get too caught up with any of the rankings because they don’t mean much.
I’m very excited about the quality of the athletes that are coming in with this class and the positions they are at. Demetrius Jones and Zach Frazier, both top notch quarterbacks will both have a chance to thrive under Weis. Expect for one of them to be red shirted next year. The mass of defensive backs will be welcomed early to improve the speed and depth of the Irish secondary.
Demetrius Jones: The Next Vince Young?
Okay, well maybe that is a bit of a prediction for a kid who hasn’t even practices at the college level yet but he is clearly the most similar style athlete and quarterback in this years recruiting class.
He actually is one of the offensive recruits I am most excited about. He has something that could potentially add yet another dimension to Charlie Weis’ offensive. An offensive that I would call the most unpredictable of 2005. Add some speed with your quarterback and that blitzing that Ohio State did may become much less effective. Heck it could have meant a Fiesta Bowl win?… Its not like they got blown out, they just couldn’t quite get anything going.
Here is what Randy Rodgers had to say about Demetrius on Rivals.com:
Jimmy Clausen: Junior of the Year
It is already obvious that there will be a lot of attention around Jimmy Clausen when National Signing Day comes around next year. Why is that you ask? Because he already has as much attention as the top prospects from this years class.
Just today, Rivals.com announced Jimmy Clausen as their pick for Junior of the Year.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to many as his personal quarterbacks coach said he’s the LeBron James of high school football. Lets just hope he isn’t being overly hyped.
So why are they so caught up on this kid? Keep reading and I’ll tell you…
College Football National Signing Day
Some people don’t actually know when the National Signing Day for College Football recruiting is, so I decided to post it.
This years National Signing Day is:
February 1, 2006
You will see plenty of the biggest name recruits holding out until that very day to announce their decision. Some of those big recruits still include (Name - Postion [rivals national ranking]):
Raeshon McNeil Is ALL Irish
I was able to confirm that even though Urban Myer invited an already Irish committed Raeshon McNeil down to the swamp to make a last ditch effor to steal him away, Urb has failed.
Scout.com reported yesterday that McNeil has confirmed that he is going to Notre Dame.
This is really annoying after Urban Liar publicy said it would be unethical for any coach to recruit
a committed player. Figures because that was when it was another coach
recruiting his players. After seeing some shady moves like this, I’m very glad that he chose to go to Florida. Their standards and ethics fit him much better. Charlie Weis has proved to be trustworthy and honest as a coach, a recruiter, and a person… a much better fit for Notre Dame.
Sam Young Picks Notre Dame

The five star offensive lineman recruit from Florida announced today that he will be going to Notre Dame.
"I committed to Notre Dame today because they offer me the best
opportunity academically and athletically," he said. "Academics were a
huge factor in my decision as Notre Dame’s graduation rate is excellent.
"I also have a great relationship with John Latina. I think it’s really important to have a strong relationship with your position coach."
John Latina is the offensive line coach for Notre Dame.
Young is the 27th committment received by Charlie Weis for the class of
2011. This could boost Notre Dame’s recruiting class to be a top 3 class nationally.
Sam Young To Announce Decision
The number 1 rated offensive lineman recruit, Sam Young, is ready to announce his decision. Today at 4:20PM he plans to announce his decision on ESPNews.
He has been extremely quiet about letting anyone know where he was looking and its still a mystery. Most experts thought he would stay at home and go to Florida but they have been eliminated from his list. The choices have been narrowed down to two schools: USC and Notre Dame.
The 6-foot-8, 302 pound left tackle is rated as the top offensive lineman and the 11th rank overall recruit nationally.
2007 Recruiting Getting Started Already
Weis is not wasting anytime preparing for the next round of recruits. In fact, Notre Dame is about to receive it’s first verbal for the 2007 recruiting class… and its a big one.
The highly anticipated California quarterback, Jimmy Clausen is expect to verbally commit to Notre Dame. Yes, I know, its early and its only a verbal but so far there haven’t been many recruits turning away from Weis and the Irish.
Having one of the best recruiting season since the Lou Holtz era, Weis has made a move to help secure Clausen for the 2007 class.
Notre Dame Tells Mustain To Look Elsewhere

After gaining verbal committments from two other highly touted recruits, Charlie Weis has reassured everyone that they are not recruiting Mitch Mustain from Arkansas.
Mitch Mustain has been one of them most talked about recruits this year. At first he committed in his home state of Arkansas but later said that he was still open to other schools because he didn’t like the direction that the Arkansas program is heading.
There has been a lot of speculation that Notre Dame would recruit Mustain because of the nice fit he would make in Charlie Weis’ offense. You’ve got to think that Mustain had a lot of interest in going to Notre Dame, check the towel he is wearing in this picture.
