A New Season For The Irish?

I wasn’t actually surprised when Notre Dame came back to win the game against Michigan State this week.  I just had a feeling throughout the whole game that they were going to win.  I definitely didn’t have that same feeling in South Bend when Michigan was dominating them but I still didn’t leave before the end of the game.  True fans just don’t do that at Notre Dame, we support the team through the good, bad, and the ugly.

However, the one surprise I did have was the comments from Corso, Herbstreit, and Holtz about the significance of the Notre Dame comeback win against Michigan State.

They all said basically the same thing at different times.  That Notre Dame could have just put themselves in position to go to Tempe, Arizona and play for the National Championship.

At first, I thought they were crazy, but then I looked at who was in the Top 10. A lot of those teams have to play each other or have a tough road to win out.  I personally don’t think anyone will be undefeated at the end of the regular season.  That is something I said before this season began because it just seemed like there was too much pairity for that to happen.

But if there aren’t any undefeated teams and Notre Dame goes into Southern California the last week of the season with only one loss, they should be playing for a spot in the National Championship game.

Now its one thing for a Notre Dame fan to make that claim but for Corso, Herbstreit, and Holtz to all make that conclusion on the same night… that is something to think about.
