Happy Holiday Bowl

G_peterson_412_1Man was it nice to see those cocky Oregan fans after losing the bowl game that they were too good for.  The biggest mistake a team can make after complaining about getting snubbed by the BCS is to LOSE the game they were "too good for".

Oklahoma struggled on offense in the first half against the quick Oregon defense.  But in the third quarter, got things turned around by getting back to what they (and the Big 12) do best, run the ball and control the line of scrimmage.  Adrian Peterson made some great runs and before you know it, Oregon is down by 10 points in the fourth quarter and Oklahoma is threatening to score inside the 10.

Then Oklahoma (actually Peterson) gave Oregon a belated Christmas gift… err maybe it was for Hanukkah.  While pushing towards the goal line, Peterson thinking he was closer than he was, stretches the ball out to towards the goaline before he is down.  Only problem was he put the ball in the lap of an Oregon linebacker as he was on top of a pile keeping him from being ruled down.

This resulted in Oregon not only getting the ball back but keeping the deficit to 10 points, a two possession game.

Oregon showed some serious balls and made a few clutch plays down the stretch.  The one that sticks out in my mind would be the fake field goal when it was still a two possession game.  The field goal would have been just fine but it worked out so I guess you can’t give Belotti too much crap but I can imagine Oregon fans wouldn’t have been too happy with that call if the ref wouldn’t have thrown the pass interference flag.  A play later they put it in the end zone.

However, Oklahoma’s defense came up big in the end, picking off a pass deep in Oklahoma territory with less than a minute to play.  This ended up being the game winning play of the Sooners but it shouldn’t have even come down to this.  I guarantee that Peterson won’t be making that mistake next year, Stoops will make sure of it.

The fact is that Oregon was in the bowl that they deserved to be in. They had a good record but that was against the soft part of the Pac-10 (as if there is any other part besides USC).  They competed in this game but didn’t look anything like a team that deserved to be in the BCS instead.
The Fiesta Bowl matchup was automatic but it would have been the same without those rules.  And NOT because of the money, but because it was the right matchup.

Remember The Alamo (Bowl)

A_nunn_412What a play that would have been Wednesday
night to finish the Alamo Bowl.  Michigan had about two seconds left
and they were trailing by four points.  They tried all they could on
the last play to break a big play, including about ten different
laterals.  Eventually breaking the play all the way down to the 15 yard
line, almost scoring the winning touchdown. If the tight end would have
thought to hand the ball to Steve Breston, with his speed, would have
easily been able to cut back to the middle of the field and score the
winning touchdown.  The worst part of this is that the touchdown would
have COUNTED and Michigan would have WON!  That would have been one of
the most amazing finishes since the infamous Stanford/Cal run back.

Anyways, counting down to the biggest bowl game of the season… no not the Rose Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl.  The rare matchup between Notre Dame and Ohio State will prove to be the best game of the bowl season, just wait and see.  Only 4 days to go…

HERE COME THE IRISH!

Busy Week

It’s been kind of a long and busy week after the holiday’s.  Actually, the biggest problem has been the constant intrigue of a good college football bowl game.

Be sure to check out the new blogs that I’ve started this week.  I’ve picked a random variety of topics to write about including babies, bad credit, parenting, cell phones, and of course wine.  Check out some of the initial posts on these sites.  I tried to start them out pretty general.  I will be trying to post to these blogs daily (well almost daily) as I enjoy writing different pieces about all of them.

There will be more topics to come very soon so be sure to check back again.  I’ll be announcing everything from new blogs to new posts on this blog so sign up for the feed to stay up to date.

Finally

Well, I’ve finally gotten around to starting my blog. I’ve been
wanting to get this started for about a year now. Maybe I’m making an
early New Year’s resolution to do this or something. I’m not sure what
exactly has prompted me to finally do this. It probably has something
to do with getting the flu this week and not being able to leave the
house.

I’m going to be picking pretty much any topic I want to talk about
here. Feel free to make comments and I’ll read them or ignore them,
probably will depend on what mood I’m in at the time.
